Shockwave Therapy in Indio

long hair patient with therapy shoulderChronic joint, muscle, or tendon pain can sometimes linger despite traditional chiropractic care. We see this more commonly in our athletes, especially our local golfers, tennis players and pickleball enthusiasts. Shockwave therapy gives our team another option for addressing stubborn, long-standing problems and encouraging the body to restart a healing process that may have slowed over time.

Reawakening the Body’s Healing Response

At Gonstead Family Chiropractic, we use the Chattanooga Intelect Focus Shockwave machine to target specific areas of chronic pain and dysfunction. It works by stimulating cells within tissue that has settled into a long-standing, less active state, helping reactivate the body’s natural healing response.

Your chiropractor may recommend shockwave therapy as an additional layer of care when chronic joint, muscle, or tendon problems have been difficult to resolve with chiropractic care alone.

Where Shockwave Therapy May Help

Shockwave therapy is best suited to chronic, long-standing problems affecting joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Areas and concerns that may benefit include:

  • Elbow pain and tendinopathy
  • Knee and ankle problems
  • Plantar fascia concerns
  • Sports-related soft tissue injuries
  • Chronic muscle problems
  • Tendon and joint issues

Because shockwave therapy is location-specific rather than a full-body therapy, each session is targeted directly to the problem area, such as a knee, elbow, ankle, or affected tendon.

Short, Targeted Sessions

Sessions typically last around 10 minutes. Depending on the problem, patients may have anywhere from one to six visits, usually scheduled about a week apart. This spacing gives the body time to respond and recover before the area is stimulated again.

Before beginning, our team will determine whether shockwave therapy is appropriate based on your health history and the location being addressed. It is not used during pregnancy or for people with active cancer. There are also restrictions involving children and growth plates, along with certain location-specific considerations.

What About Insurance and Packages?

While some insurance plans are accepted at the practice, shockwave therapy is an out-of-pocket service and is not insurance-based. Packages are available for patients who may benefit from a series of sessions.
